A friendly local approaches a tourist at an ATM cash machine and offers assistance to avoid local bank fees. An accomplice pretending to be a fellow tourist also lining up for the ATM helps convince the victim to accept the offer. What they really wanted to do is scan the victim’s ATM card with the card skimmer in one of the crooks’ pocket and watch the victim enter his pin number. Once they got your ATM information, they will leave and then drain your account later.
How To Avoid It:
Make sure no one is near you while you’re making an ATM transaction. Also cover the number pad with your other hand while entering your pin code. If someone approaches while you are making a transaction, cancel, take your card and find another ATM.
